Tuesday July the 27th
Total distance driven: 3.667 Km
Today’s distance: 98 Km in 2:15h
Walked distance: 19,8 Km
When I entered Romania few days ago, I stayed at Camping Mala near Orasova. Funny thing also Alex and Jana went to that camping in the past.
In the morning I was pointing the sat nav to Corvin Castle and it was showing about 3h driving but the arrival time was 4h later. Since it has an adventurous routing feature, I suspected some kind of software bug. While on the route, it stroke me: Romania is in another time zone. Genius 😂
Today it was a hot day and I decided to go for a hike to a place Alex mentioned when he saw my blog post with the Ferrata in Slovakia: the seven ladders.
So I took the Multistrada for a spin and headed to Timisu de Jos, where the hike starts. Beautiful roads through the forest, the perfect frame for this ride.
Suddenly I saw a sign of a cave called Peștera Valea Cetății. Alex had mentioned that too, so I parked and climbed through the forest.

The way up was only 500m long. Some school children were there and the next tour was going to be in 45 minutes. I’ve seen enough caves, so I took the path down and kept riding to the seven ladders.
Together with the Transfagarasan, the road from Rasnov to Brasov was one of the best so far. Loved it!

I was going to visit the town of Rasnov after the hike, when the heat was going to be more gentle.

It took a good hour hike to get there and I was greeted by the roaring sound of a waterfall.

Soon things got beautifully wet.

Overall a pleasant and fresh trip. I’m falling in love with these technical hikes more and more. Thanks Alex for the hint!
A short drive and I was in Brasov, the L.A. of Romania. First stop the famous black church, so named because after a fire its walls got darker.
Brasov is a charming town with a nice flair.
Back on the same road, that brought me here. So much fun!
Until a car in the opposite way flashes the lights, I slow down. Soon after, a policeman stands in the middle of the road 👮♀️ I stop and kill the engine.
We are in the middle of the road and he asks in Romanian for what I believe to be the driving license and motorcycle documents. I answer I can speak only English. He looks at me and ask in English where I’m headed. “To the Vampir Camping in Bran.” Suddenly he offers me an handshake and says: have a good evening sir! 🙂 I shake his hand and smiling I reply: thanks, you too! 😃 Even the police is nice is Romania.
At the camping a man approaches me and asks in German to show him on his map where is the Transfagarasan. He also crossed it but he wasn’t sure about the position. His name is Ulrich Angst from Bad Krozingen near Freiburg.
He is retired and drives his BMW R80 GS he bought new in 1981. The bike is 40 years old and has driven 60K Kms so far. It has 50 PS and no electronics. Ulrich is a legend.
Alex gave me a bottle of “good stuff”. An elisir of life made out of apple. I offered a glass to Ulrich and we drank to the travels 😃 I’m sure Alex approves 😉
