Day 10 🇫🇷 Les Châteaux de la Loire

As expected, it rained. Not to complain but it just takes a good extra amount of time to pack, when you have a wet tent and a motorbike. So it was only around 11:30am that arrived at the castle of Chamborde.

First glimpse of Chamborde

It’s an absolute beast of a castle. A behemoth but with charme and proportions. The first memories came back to my mind. I was here with my family when I was 11 or so. Nostalgic feelings…

Chamborde Castle

The rain had just stopped so very few people where around and I could take a couple of photos, where it is absolutely forbidden to stop.

The invisibility cloak worked again like a charme and I left Lollo in the park, just few meters away from the castle!

Leonardo da Vinci spent some years of his late life in this region and contributed with his genius to the architecture of some of the Loire’s castles. Look for example at the last photo of the circular stairs. They are built as a spiral but with two flies of stairs going up at the same time. Here is a video. Incredible!

The next castle on the list was Cheverny but my timing with special events didn’t stop to surprise me. It was closed exceptionally for the wedding of the owner’s daughter 😁 but I managed to steal a shot from the outside.

There are lots of castles within a 100Km stip on the river Loire. The next famous one was going to be Blois, just 25 minutes away.

This castle is famous for being linked to Jeanne d’Arc and for the statue of Kind Louis II on a horse.

Time to reach the next castle. One of my favourites and definitely one I remember we visited with my parents and sister back in the days: Chaumont.

Chaumont Castle

I love the size, shape and distribution of the towers and the color of the roofs. It has a fantastic atmosphere.

From here, with another short ride with Lollo I reached one of the most enchanting Loire’s castles: Chenonceau, This one also belonged to Caterina dei Medici, who expanded it over the river to have more room for big parties. In the photo gallery below you can notice some canoos, which you can rent to admire it also from the river.

Wow, so many castles. Each one even better than the previous one. The long day was coming to an end. The next castle on the liste was Amboise and since it wasn’t far, I found a nice camping nearby based on an island callled Île d’Or on the Loire river. A special place.
