The nice part of camping in Italy is the possibility to have breakfast the Italian way. Almost every camp site offers cappuccino or latte macchiato and croissants on reservation the evening before.

While drinking my latte macchiato the camping cat had some water 😂

A last blick to the lake and the mountains before packing.

Today’s destination is Bormio, my mom’s hometown and place where I spent several holidays as a kid. I still have uncles, aunts and cousins there.

We are approaching the Alps and the landscape and roads are changing dramatically, while the fun increases.

From lake Iseo I had different routes to reach Bormio: the Aprica Pass, the Gavia Pass and if you want to take the long route even the Stelvio Pass.

My cousin from Bormio recommend the Gavia Pass. Very famous for bikers and that I had never crossed. Let’s go for it!

Around lunch time and just before the final ascent to the Gavia Pass, I stopped at a nice beer garden called Al Mulino. A beautiful view with a stream nearby and delicious local food.

Soon after me, another biker with a KTM 1290 Super Duke arrived. I took the initiative and invited him to seat at my table. Claudio from Ravenna agreed and we had an interesting conversation over a dish of Polenta and Ossobuco.

He was also on a multi-day tour through Italy and going to enjoy the Gavia Pass. He left few minutes before me but not before taking a selfie together.

Claudio

I was ready for the Gavia Pass. No buses and trucks are allowed and very few car drivers are brave enough to take this road. Why?

Have a look at it 😎

A very narrow road, often without barriers on the side a with steep drops.

As you can see from the GPS track below, I stopped several times to admire the panorama.

Not the best asphalt but a fantastic ride!

Passo Gavia 2.652m

A short break on the summit for a drink. In the photo above you can see a group of sports car parked in the background.

The descent was striking too

I truly enjoyed the Gavia Pass and its rural nature. The village of Santa Caterina Valfurva marked the end of the descent and few kilometres laters, I finally arrived in Bormio.
