Last night and this morning I walked around Orvieto and discovered its alleys and the Dome.

Definitely a nice little town worth a visit. The Dome is humongous and out of proportions for the size of this place. It helps to make Orvieto noticeable even from far away.

I got even the chance to see a MV Agusta Brutale, a motorbike almost impossible to tame in such narrow alleyways.

Again time to pack and drive to another milestone of the Italian tradition. We are leaving Umbria and moving to Tuscany, specifically to Montepulciano, birthplace of the homonymous wine 🍷

The roads are becoming curvy and it’s a real fun to ride surrounded by gorgeous landscapes.

I thought Montepulciano would be bigger, instead is a little village maybe 1,5 Km long. Everywhere there is a chance to enjoy a glass of wine and local delicious food as I did.

It goes without saying, I couldn’t resist to the call of the tower…

I’ve rarely seen such tiny and narrow stairs. On some steps only one foot was fitting and the ceiling was so low… let me give you a feeling of the climb:

Once on the top, you get full access to the bells and a fantastic panorama.

I found the town of Montepulciano to reflect the characteristics of the wine: simple but with a distinct character and taste.

The next stop was supposed to be Montalcino, home of another prestigious wine and another of my favourites: Il Brunello.

On the way to Montalcino I passed the village of Pienza and since I had to refuel and check the tire pressure, I stopped for an ice cream 🍦 😋

Let’s keep driving these beautiful roads and head to Montalcino accompanied by the typical Tuscan landscapes…

Tuscany has a very special flair!

Soon I reached Montalcino, one of the smallest villages so far, along with Pienza. Nonetheless a wonderful place with a magnificent fortress.

Initially I considered to spend the night in Siena, so I could visit the city after breakfast but the prices for a room were through the roof. Why? Well, tomorrow is Sunday! Again 😆

I love to camp but I couldn’t find a camping site near Orvieto. Most of the camping sites are either on the coast or next to a lake. Here instead with some luck I found a little camping called Il Treccolo.
