Day 31 🇧🇬 Sofia

Friday August the 6th
Total distance driven: 5591 Km
Today’s distance: 0 Km
Walked distance: 16 Km

Today is one month I’m on this journey. It’s great to be with my Ducati discovering the Balkans and meeting new friends but I also miss my wife, my boys, my family and friends at home. Travelling for long times has a better taste when done in company.

I’m still in touch with many people I met during this adventure. Tanja is fighting against an illness but she is strong. She also ordered a photo book to collect her memories of the bicycle trip. Alex and Diana are renovating a house with beautiful wood beams and hope to move in soon. Alexey is back home but not having first enjoyed his journey back. He made the new sign for the Hostel out of a piece of wood.

Sofia awaits and what better place to start than the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral. I’m so fascinated by its architecture and shapes.

The bells are playing some motives while I walk around it.

It is a memorial church built to commemorate the thousands Russian, Bulgarian, Ukrainian, Moldavian, Finnish and Romanian soldiers who from 1877 to 1878 gave their lives to liberate Bulgaria from the Ottoman empire.

I walk around collecting many impressions of Sofia.

Particularly I like the mountains in the back. They are quite close to the city and tomorrow we are going to drive there.
