To tell the truth, I already attempted to visit the famous Bran castle the morning before. But I had to do my laundry and arrived at the castle around 10:30am. Bran is a very touristic attraction and the queue was just unbearable. So I went for the hike and postponed the visit to today.
This time I was at the entrance at the opening time: 9am. It was just me and a Romanian family with 3 kids.
The castle is well kept as is was inhabited till 1948 but Vlad never lived here. They just did an amazing job marketing it as Dracula’s castle. Apparently Vlad’s castle is close to Alex and Jana’s town on the Transfagarasan but it is just a ruin today.
On the bright side, if you want to get your COVID vaccine, here they get you covered with both shots at once. You might lose some blood🩸 in the process but don’t be afraid.
Next I was going to drive to Peles castle on the way to Bucharest. But the town of Rasnov with its medieval citadel attracted my attention.
For some reason there was a queue for some kilometres and I attempted my luck offroad. Everything went well, until I ended up on a narrow path. I proceeded on foot and the path was following the railroad but with a high drop on the left side.
Soon thing were going to get worse. Back on the road it started raining. First lightly then with big drops. This was the situation:
I was just 5 Kms away from Peles castle but I had to wait for 1,5h for the storm to pass. At last, I managed to get there. Beautiful but in a different way.
The spectacular Transylvania ended in Brasnov ans Rasnov. Soon the landscape began to flatten and so the roads. The way to Bucharest was hot (38C / 100F) and dry. Endless plains with yellow fields and only few trees.
