Today was reserved for the sightseeing of Belgrade, beginning from the fortress.

Here it is possible to see some of the russian influence in Serbia.

I walked through the city with a tourist map for orientation and saw some more street art and abandoned buildings.

Then I reached the House of Parliament and Saint Mark’s church, stopping in the park nearby for lunch.

As you see in the last photo above, the supermarket chain Lidl rented the whole facade of the Slavija Hotel. They are making huge investments in all the countries I visited so far. I pity things are looking more and more the same everywhere.

Continuing my tour I arrived at the curch of Saint Sava where I met an American couple from New Jersey while asking to get a photo.

Serbia is the country of people like Novak Djokovic and Nikola Tesla among others. For the first one there was a huge Lidl size poster while entering the city, celebrating his 20th grand slam. For Tesla there is a small museum that I couldn’t miss!

In 45 minutes you can a good understanding of what he discovered for the modern world. Basically alternate current AC which can easily achieve higher voltages and be transmitted over longer distances than direct current DC. Thomas Edison discovered this last one. For a period of time they even worked together.

Tesla also invented the induction motor using magnets to transform electricity into motion. This is the fundament for 90% of today’s electric motors including washing machines, blenders and cars. Last but not least he laid the basis for wireless signal transmission. Amazing stuff.
