After having set up the tent the evening before at the Arena camping in Budapest, I met Tanja. She arrived by bicycle from Germany and had done over 600Km in the past week. Her tour actually started two weeks before and included Austria, Slovakia and Hungary as she followed the Danube.
The first week her son and a friend of him joined the tour but now she was also solo.
She pitched her tent next to mine and we had a chat.
In the morning the sun was shining and we went together to visit Budapest.

Budapest is beautiful and also very clean. Tanja noticed how much clean were all the statues and the streets. On the other hand as soon as you get out of the city, the music changes. It is a representative place.
The tour continued…

The first time I was in Budapest I was 18 years old. We went to Prague and Budapest for one week. with the school as a year’s end trip. I only remember that we had the suits and we went to play in the casino 😉
I’m glad I came a second time as I enjoyed this city in a much different way, soaking in it and making it mine.
Should you also visit Budapest, don’t miss the Halaszbastya (Fishermen’s Bastion). Tanja and I spent over 1,5h sitting there, sipping coffee and enjoying the view. Great place, fabulous atmosphere.

After the Fishermen’s Bastion I went to Buda Castle while Tanja headed back to the centre.

As the sunset approached I felt a mix of happiness and tiredness and looked for the next underground station. The fate wanted me to see the House of Parliament one last time before leaving as the next stop was exactly on the Danube bank opposite to it.

Back to the camping, I made dinner and met again Tanja. She was going to leave the morning after by train and go back to Unna in Germany. We both had a great stay in Budapest.
